Rikki
Lewis is turning 70 years old this April. Rikki was
born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. In 1965, she moved to
Forest Hills, Queens after spending a year working
for the Department of Defense in Germany. Rikki has
been a winter resident of Gulfport since 1998.
Being a regular
attendee of Golden Threads, Rikki championed the
start of and organized Silver Threads Celebration
here in the Gulfport/St. Petersburg area. Silver
Threads Celebration is an annual gathering of over
50 lesbian women. Rikki hopes to have 200 full-time
attendees and any number of locals in the future.
Silver Threads is run not-for-profit. Proceeds are
earmarked for “family” organization.
Rikki comments that, “Organizing Silver Threads has
been satisfying and terrifying. It is satisfying to
see women enjoying themselves and seeing the
production emerge. I love organizing things and
keeping records.” Rikki now has a board of women to
help her with these tasks.
Rikki’s Dream is to have a gathering for old
lesbians every month all over the continent.
